Time - spaces are recuring themes in the work of Eugenia Gortchakova. She puts the movement of time on the surface of her picture and names her ray- or line-pictures also "Time-Structures", which combine circles for the cyclic return and lines for infinity. These pictures seem first to be mathematically abstract and regular, dominated by the superindividual regularity of the structures, but they form also very concretly the traces of the workung time, in which the artist has painted them. So they are also a specific measure of her individual lifetime. This produces the tension of the pictures. Eugenia Gortchakova outlines with her pictures houses and towers as signs of her place in connection with the tradition of the avantgarde which was art-theoretically programmatic, but she takes the signs for her own lifetime-project. The pictures are also disturbing, because they implicate - like each regular order - the contrast, a chaos, from which they were wrung from. The strictness of the puctures suggest something sacred or meditative. The theme "Paradise" confirms this subversion. Eugenia Gortchakova has put three questions to other people and interprets their answers in pictures with words and portaits and with her own associations about the ideas of the asked persons. These motifs which are integrated into her timestructure-pictures look like ironical break by chance into the logic of the structures. Dr. Sabine Offe
